Finding Jesus: Luke’s Gospel. Unexpected Beginnings: Luke 1:1-55
We begin our study of Luke’s Gospel looking at the birth stories of John the Baptist and Jesus. We see in both stories that God seeks out those with humble hearts who are ready to be used by Him. .

Jesus’ Church is meant to be a praying church. After Jesus ascended into heaven, His followers received the Holy Spirit, then launched the first church. Today we see how, from the beginning, prayer was an essential part of the church.

Luke 11 tells us that one day when Jesus returned from praying, His disciples asked Him to teach them to pray. They never asked Him to teach them to preach, or do miracles…but there was something about Jesus’ prayer life that was so compelling to them they just had to have them teach them to pray. Today we look at the first 5 words of Jesus’ response…5 words that will radically impact how we pray!

On the night of Jesus’ birth, the angels declared to shepherds, of all people…Good news, of Great Joy, for all people, even Shepherds! The gift of joy comes from Jesus—our Savior, Christ, and Lord. Joy is not something we can generate—it comes from being in the presence of and in relationship with Jesus! Let’s explore this great gift and how Jesus delivers it to us as Savior, Christ, and Lord.

We paused for a Sunday and said “Thank you!” to God. A shorter sermon, a time lingering over the Lord’s Supper, and then a time of corporate sharing awakened our hearts to the power of gratitude.

Our good friend Justin Reynolds takes us through this powerful passage in which Paul inspires us to follow his example of striving toward the goal of the upward call of God—to truly know and reflect Jesus in our lives, living like the citizens of heaven that we are! What a great word for the people of Compass, and anyone else eager to see Jesus become more real in our lives.

The Surpassing Worth of Knowing Jesus: Philippians 3:1-11
I think if Paul himself were to come preach at Compass Church, this might be one of the top candidates of a passage he would share with a church that is trying to simply focus on Jesus, and help people find and follow Jesus! The reason we can have joy and confidence in any circumstance in our lives is because we know Jesus—not just know about Jesus, but experientially and relationally know Him.

Work Out/Shine Out: Philippians 2:12-16
In light of the powerful reality of what Jesus has done for us—as seen in Phil. 2:5-11; we are now encouraged to work out this powerful life Jesus has given us together…to grow in humility with one another, working according to the power God has given us. Then, we are encouraged to shine out in this world, holding forth the liberating Word of life God has given us…and we are encouraged to stand out in one specific way—not complaining! Jump into this passage with us and lets see Jesus continue to transform us to live joyfullly, together, in any circumstance!
